Drums of Autumn Gabaldon Diana (2006)

In this novel, Diana Gabaldon continues the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser begun in Outlander and its bestselling sequels Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager. Cast ashore in the American colonies, the Frasers must choose between returning to a Scotland devastated by famine and poverty and risking a new life in the New World, where Claire knows the coming Revolution awaits. Their daughter Brianna seems safe on the other side of a dangerous future, while Claire and Jamie seek a new beginning among exiled Scottish Highlanders in the fertile river valleys of the Colony of North Carolina. Their hope for peace is threatened by the British Crown and by Jamies aunt, Jocasta MacKenzie, the last of the MacKenzies of Leoch. Jamie eventually seeks refuge in the mountains, where the family establishes a precarious foothold threatened only by wild animals, Native Americans and starvation. But history spares no one. When Brianna follows her mother into the past, she must find the mother she has lost and the father she has never met, and save them both from a future only she can see.
