Jonathan Harkers journey to Transylvania should have been straightforward, but Draculas castle is shrouded in mystery. It resembles a maze, and its owner appears only in the middle of the night, while during the day he sleeps in a deep, cold cellar. Jonathan desperately tries to return to England, but first he must escape the castleand pray that Count Dracula does not follow him. Bram (Abraham) Stoker was born in Dublin in 1847. While writing theatre reviews for the Dublin Evening Mail, he met its co-owner, Sheridan Le Fanu, who wrote Gothic novels and inspired Stoker. After visiting the English seaside town of Whitby, Stoker conceived the idea for Dracula, which went on to become one of the best-known works of English literature. This Czech-language book presents a frightening version of the classic story.
