Dm smrti Matjovsk Bohumil (2025)

This science-fiction novel by Bohumil Matjovsk explores the dark yet deeply human themes of assisted suicide and euthanasia. Its central agency offers people the possibility of a peaceful death, preceded by a final dream created from their happiest memories. This unusual science-fiction element raises questions about the ethical boundaries of such a business. The protagonist, an older man named Alois, decides to end his life through the agency. As he approaches the building where his suffering is to end, he recalls a life filled with both joy and pain. His inner struggle and nostalgic memories return in the form of a guided dream, while his journey towards the decision and his final moments encourage reflection on the value of life and death. The Czech-language book won the 2024/25 Talent Pro ART Literary Competition and is suited to readers seeking an emotional, psychologically oriented science-fiction story with deeper questions about human existence.
