Divnovlsky – CD

Read by Aa Geislerov, this Czech-language audiobook follows Irena Obermannovs strongly autobiographical storytelling about a divorced mother of two teenage daughters. Xenia is looking for a husband and a new father for her daughters, using highly unconventional and informal methods. Her meetings with potential partners produce a series of entertaining and witty situations. With characteristic openness, perspective and humour, Obermannov intelligently explores social and ethical questions. The story was adapted into a television film that received the main prize at the Novomstsk hrnec smchu festival. As in the film, Aa Geislerov is the main performer on this recording, demonstrating her talent for dramatic storytelling and for creating distinctive voices for all the characters. She portrays the teenage Kristna, the seducer Ji, the tractor driver Ba, the sexologist Slavek and seven-year-old Justna with remarkable naturalness. Her performance gives the story tension, lightness, irony and a sense of the absurd.
