Diaries of Franz Kafka Kafka Franz (2025)

Available in English for the first time, this volume presents the complete, uncensored diaries of one of the twentieth centurys most influential writers. Covering the years 1909 to 1923, Franz Kafkas diaries include accounts of daily events, reflections and observations, literary sketches, draft letters, dreams and unrevised story texts. This comprehensive reconstruction of Kafkas handwritten diary entries restores material omitted from earlier publications, including peoples names and undisguised details about them, additional literary writing and passages of a sexual nature, some with homoerotic overtones. By faithfully reproducing the distinctive, often surprisingly unpolished writing of Kafkas notebooks, translator Ross Benjamin reveals the diaries role in literary invention and uncompromising self-examination, as well as their value as a work of genius in their own right.
