Cantervillsk straidlo / Obraz Doriana Graye Wilde Oscar (2026)

This Czech-language volume contains The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Canterville Ghost. The Picture of Dorian Gray explores moral questions in social relationships in England at the end of the nineteenth century. A young, wealthy libertine sees the traces of his dissolute life appear on his portrait, while his own appearance remains unchanged. Until the tragic resolution, the story captivates with polished dialogue, witty observations and criticism of social narrow-mindedness and cynicism. The Canterville Ghost, described as a hylo-idealistic romance, humorously and nostalgically portrays the difficult fate of an honest English ghost forced to share his castle with a noisy American family. This mysterious comic tale, one of the first works by the renowned English dramatist, mocks both English snobs and American nouveaux riches.
