This novel follows two couples spending a sweltering summer on the Italian island of Procida. Alba and Valentin have been married for seven years, but the birth of their daughter has brought a profound change to their relationship. Although they seem happy, Alba is struggling inwardly. Pregnancy and the changes to her body have undermined her confidence, and she begins to feel that Valentin no longer sees her as a beautiful woman, but only as a mother.
