Boe, je tahle zem? Tenenbom Tuvia (2025)

This Czech-language book, published in a world premiere, follows Tuvia Tenenboms year among Jewish settlers on the West Bank, people often portrayed by the world as the worst creatures on earth, perpetrators of the worst evil. What are they really like, what do they do and what do they want? Palestinians and Jews both want this land, and both live there. Tenenbom meets settlers, Palestinians, madmen, false and genuine prophets, visionaries, farmers, Jews and Arabs. He asks them clever and seemingly nave questions designed to provoke them, often successfully, and to discover what they truly think. When he is not watching Iranian rockets in the sky, he assembles an unusually funny yet alarming portrait of Israel and Palestine, of life among the West Bank settlements, or, if one prefers, Judea and Samaria. At a time when the Israeli-Arab conflict is shaking the world, Tenenbom offers observations intended to open readers eyes. Behind his humour lie surprising and often cruel truths, and he is anything but politically correct.
