Big Heads – 2 CD

In 1992, three outstanding musicians came together in the studio to delight admirers of sophisticated rock with twelve new recordings. Led by guitarist and sole composer Michal Pavlek, the musicians could draw on rich previous experience from projects including Prask vbr, Stromboli, ETC and Krausberry. Pavlek, bassist Ji Vesel and drummer Ji Zelenka had the opportunity to move the albums entirely instrumental content into the realm of virtuoso trio performance. The package, featuring artwork by Pavel Brzda, contains rock with many ingredients, sometimes suggested by compositions with titles such as Pipe of Jazzy Metal. The trio combines musical mastery with a sense of humour, and the booklet portrays its members in domestic, Celtic and Oriental-style costumes, reflecting some of their sources of inspiration. As an example of supreme instrumental musicianship with an immediate appeal to listeners, Big Heads still has little competition. The second CD provides further evidence, offering thirteen concert recordings from 2001 whose repertoire substantially overlaps with the album. The set includes remastering from Sono studio and a carefully reconstructed cover.
