Baltic Moody Oliver (2026)

The Baltic region will help determine the course of the West in the coming years. Its nine borderlands are not only the historical battleground of Russian aggression but also a source of ideas for reviving Europe. Shaped by the past century, each country offers lessons in adaptability, hope and prosperity in an age of instability. Innovation in Estonia, patience in Finland, resilience in Poland and poetry in Latvia show how these poorly understood frontline states are reshaping the balance of power around the heart of Eurasia. From pioneering environmental initiatives and world-leading technological innovations to growing economies, confronting disinformation and tempering the populist right, the Baltic states are essential to understanding how political events may unfold in the years ahead. Blending history, politics and reportage, Oliver Moodys book explains why these are some of Europes most imaginative allies, despite being so little understood. Through interviews with prime ministers, presidents, generals, intelligence officers, business leaders and ordinary people, he traces the extraordinary emergence of a new centre of great-power rivalry. The fate of these countries matters because it is also our own.
