Aztec Myths & Tales: Epic Tales Aveni Anthony (2023)

This fascinating collection explores the history, culture, gods, calendar, myths and tales of the Aztecs, Incas, Mayans and other Mesoamerican and Central American peoples, from migration legends to the origin myth of the Five Suns. It places the Aztecs, Mesoamerica’s last dominant indigenous civilization, within the region’s rich diversity, alongside the earlier Olmec civilization. The myths and gods of these cultures reflect a natural philosophy in which life and death are symbolically linked to the earth, sky and sea in a grand cosmic scheme. The collection introduces the tribal war god Huitzilopochtli, the rain and fertility god Tlaloc and the supreme deity Tezcatlipoca, Lord of the Smoking Mirror, bringing together history and storytelling in a collectable volume from the Flame Tree Epic Tales series. The Flame Tree Gothic Fantasy, Classic Stories and Epic Tales collections encompass mythology, folklore and modern short fiction, highlighting the roots of suspense, supernatural, science fiction and mystery stories.
