Sybil and Blake Gregory are a typical twenty-first-century couple: she is an interior designer, while he is a forward-thinking business analyst. Together with their teenage children, Andrew and Caroline, and six-year-old Charlie, they lead a contented life in Manhattan. When Blake is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at work, he takes it and sets out to open a new branch of the company in San Francisco. While looking for a house, he is captivated by a beautiful mansion from the twentieth century and impulsively buys it. Everything changes as a result. The house is still inhabited by the Butterfields, a prominent banking family who lived there a century earlier. One night, they appear in all their splendour and with all the elegance of the era in which they lived. From that moment, a bond of respect, affection and friendship begins to grow between the two families. The book is in Czech.
