This Czech-language volume continues the series on 22 June 1941, describing events in 1940 and 1941 that led to the fateful clash between two totalitarian powers, particularly from the perspective of aviation history. Luftwaffe aerial espionage forms a characteristic part of the calculated partnership between Hitlers Germany and Stalins Soviet Union. German reconnaissance flights grew more prolonged and intense, while the Soviet air force initially responded with exceptional restraint under Stalins strict orders. By spring 1941, espionage flights and Soviet countermeasures had led to the first aerial clashes and fatalities. The book also examines inaccessible documents and the possibility that Stalins intentions regarding Soviet involvement in the war against Germany were never put in writing. It describes Soviet long-range exercises over the Black Sea aimed at British-controlled areas of the Middle East and neutral Turkey, together with the armament of the Transcaucasian Military District. A final chapter explores the paradox of Soviet and German aircraft operating from Finland on the first day of Operation Barbarossa, when Finland declared neutrality, as well as Finnish dilemmas after the Winter War and the opening encounters in the Far North and around Leningrad.
