13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl Awad Mona (2023)

Lizzie doesn’t like the way she looks. Although she dates men online, she is afraid to send pictures because she believes no one wants a fat girl. Lizzie begins to lose weight, counting almonds consumed and pounds dropped with punishing determination while navigating the double-edged approval of her mother, friends, husband and own reflection. Yet no matter how much weight she loses, can she ever see herself as anything other than a fat girl? In this darkly funny and deeply resonant novel, Mona Awad offers a tender, moving portrait of a young woman whose life is hijacked by her struggle to conform.
