The Gospel can be lived simply, without complicated explanations, and that is why Saint Francis of Assisi is a happy man. What he discovered also touches our hearts. Those who have visited Assisi know the feeling: this sacred place lifts a person towards something higher yet humble. As we come to know Francis’s life and legacy, a saving restlessness takes hold of us. This man of peace, who praised the sun, seems to encourage our desire for a happy life and for the gift revealed to him by Jesus: a life lived according to the Gospel.
