Bestie (2026)

This Czech-language detective novel takes place after the major social changes following the Velvet Revolution and the subsequent 1990 amnesty, which releases many incorrigible criminals. Some take advantage of the fall of the Iron Curtain and leave the country, but a bloody trail follows one of them across more than half of Europe before returning home. The recidivist leaves behind the mutilated and abused bodies of women, but no fingerprints. The investigators receive help from a new method, DNA analysis. The story also shifts between perspectives, alternately following the killers actions, the Voice that compels him to murder, and the detectives efforts to catch the beast in human form.
