Z dvnu Hfize Dl II. Chvde amsuddn Muhammad Hfiz (2026)

The second part of the Czech translation of The Divan of Hafez, this volume again features the translations of Dr. Jar. B. Kout and Jaroslav Vrchlick, with notes by Rudolf Dvok, a professor and founder of Czech Oriental studies. The work of the Iranian poet Chvde amsuddn Muhammad Hfz offers a unique insight not only into his poetry but also into the complex and contradictory situation of the Muslim world, where intellectual life is often connected with things that orthodox Islamic theology forbids and calls sinful. Hafezs poems express this conflict through his praise of drinking and the connection between alcohol and intellectual development. He also sharply criticizes religious hypocrisy and exposes the intellectual limitations of religious fanatics. The contents are in Czech.
