Konrad Ragossnig Spanish Guitar Recital presents fundamental works of Spanish and South American guitar music in a rare recording, released on CD for the first time. In Prague, from late September to early October 1969, the legendary Supraphon Domovina studio became the home of the 37-year-old Konrad Ragossnig for four days. The guitarist was at the height of his powers, having studied in Spain with the king of classical guitar, Andrs Segovia, won the ORTF competition in Paris and taught guitar at the Musik-Akademie in Basel and the Universitt fr Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He performed throughout Europe, the USA and the Far East, both as a soloist and with orchestras. Alongside classical guitar, he also mastered the Renaissance lute, at a time when interest in early music and historically authentic performance was only beginning to awaken in Western Europe. His chamber-music friends included tenor Peter Schreier and flautist Hans Martin Linde. Returning to the foundations of Spanish and South American guitar music, Ragossnig recorded works written both for guitar and, in the cases of Albniz and Granados, for piano, whose guitar transcriptions made them truly famous. The recording team captured the full distinction of his playing in Domovinas beautiful acoustics: the beauty of his tone, flawless technical brilliance and subtle handling of agogics, dynamics and articulation. The programme includes Heitor Villa-Loboss Five Preludes, Isaac Albnizs Asturias (Leyenda), Federico Moreno Torrobas Arada and Madroos, Joaqun Turinas Fandanguillo and Enrique Granadoss Danza Espaola No. 5, Andaluza.
