Honza Kek – CD

This self-titled CD marks a new chapter in the career of Honza Kek, the distinctive musician known as the frontman of Walk Choc Ice, the longtime voice of Blue Effect, a multi-instrumentalist and composer of film and stage music. He presents his own original solo work for the first time. The project began with acoustic solo performances summarising his career and introducing several new songs, whose reception gave him the energy to complete the album. Kek recorded and sang the entire album at The Barn studio under the production supervision of Dan Friml of Mean Messiah, who also contributed the song Planety. The only other song not written by Kek is a cover of the influential song Slunen hrob, featuring Michal Pavlek. The remaining eleven tracks present the former member of Kollerband and longtime collaborator of Ivan Krl as an original songwriter whose main strength is intelligent pop-rock, while also exploring punk rock and electronic music. Despite its stylistic range, the solo debut is a confident and cohesive statement from a major figure in the Czech music scene. Its visual presentation was created by Rostislav Novk Jr., actor and artistic director of Cirk La Putyka, who portrays Kek in many different guises through the album cover and booklet.
