Harpsichordist Kateina Englichov and oboist Vilm Veverka present works for oboe and harp by Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Lubo Sluka. The programme includes Ravels Le tombeau de Couperin, Pieces en forme de Habanera and Pavane pour une infante dfunte; Debussys Reverie, Arabesque No. 2, and Prlude and Menuet from Suite bergamasque; and Slukas Primavera and Gabbione per due ussignuoli. Their first duo recording reflects almost twelve years of performing together. The unusual combination of oboe and harp offers an endless range of colours, balancing fragility with assured virtuosity. Ravels Le tombeau de Couperin forms the central work, a musical imprint of the composers memories of friends lost in the First World War. Delicate pieces by Ravel and Debussy appear in carefully crafted arrangements that bring them new colours, while Primavera, composed specifically for Englichov and Veverka, receives its premiere recording.
