This Czech audiobook, read by Luk Hlavica, follows Captain Hastings as he enjoys the warm sunshine of the seaside town of St. Loo in southern England alongside his eccentric yet brilliant friend Hercule Poirot, who has retired by this time. Their pleasant banter on the terrace of the Majestic hotel is interrupted by a small accident that brings them into contact with Miss Nick Buckley, a young woman who owns an impressive old house at the very tip of a headland. Nick confides that she must be exceptionally lucky, having narrowly escaped death three times. After she leaves, Poirot notices a round hole in the forgotten felt hat she has left on the table and discovers a bullet. Although he has just claimed that nothing could persuade him to return to his former profession, someone who dares to shoot at the charming Miss Nick only a few metres from Hercule Poirot must be brought to justice. The Majestic hotel was inspired by the Imperial hotel in Agatha Christies birthplace, Torquay, while the house was based on Rock End House nearby.
