Spinosaurus is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived more than 95 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. It was one of the largest known theropods, characterised by a prominent sail on its back, probably used to regulate body temperature. Spinosaurus had a long, narrow snout and jaws lined with large teeth suited to catching prey. Its powerful forelimbs bore long claws, suggesting that it could hunt prey underwater. This dinosaur was probably a specialised predator living in an aquatic environment. Scientific studies of Spinosaurus continue to develop, and new findings advance our understanding of this impressive creature. The discovery of Spinosaurus fossils has contributed to our knowledge of dinosaur biodiversity and evolution during the Cretaceous period and of the diversity of its ecosystems.
