Rok Opice Smith Patti (2020)

In this captivating memoir, Patti Smith, author of Just Kids and M Train and recipient of the prestigious American National Book Award, looks back on one year of her life, spent wandering alone along the western coast of the United States and through the landscapes of her own dreams. The real places she visits gradually evoke long-ago memories and entirely imaginary locations. She crosses freely between these worlds, blurring our sense of where reality ends and fiction begins; through the narrators eyes, even an ordinary event can become an astonishing spectacle. There is no shortage of surprises, but also of sorrow and disillusionment brought by advancing age, the loss of loved ones and a dramatic political situation. As Patti Smith enters a new decade of her life, however, she offers readers her experience, wit, penetrating eye and, above all, an unwavering hope for a better world. The book is in Czech.
