Msc na venkov Carr Joseph Lloyd (2021)

In this deeply poetic novel, Tom Birkin finds refuge after the First World War in the peaceful village church of Oxgodby, where he is to restore medieval wall paintings. Immersed in the peace and beauty of the countryside and the unchanging rhythms of village life, he tries to regain his strength, forget the horrors he has experienced and gather breath for a new life. Gradually, he feels renewed and begins to believe in the future. Now, many years later, he reflects on the passage of time and the power of art, finding in his memories a measure of consolation for all that has been lost. A Month in the Country is Joseph Lloyd Carrs first book translated into Czech. In the year of its publication, it received the Guardian Fiction Award and was nominated for the Booker Prize; in 1987, it was adapted into a film starring Kenneth Branagh and Colin Firth.
