Martin – osud skladatele Mihule Jaroslav (2017)

This Czech-language, extensive monograph by Professor Jaroslav Mihule presents a unique body of information on his lifelong subject of expertise: the life and work of Bohuslav Martin. Mihule examines Bohuslav Martins music in the light of contemporary domestic and international criticism and engagingly captures the distinctive features of the composers individual works. For the first time, the book openly describes the post-February regimes attitude towards the composer and the damaging role of Zdenk Nejedl in his fate, while portraying Bohuslav Martin as a loyal supporter of Masaryks democracy. Particular attention is paid to the development of European music during the first half of the 20th century, with a necessary emphasis on the composers work, especially the music he created during his American exile.
